iJoystick is a native iOS API that mimics the joystick functions like any other games that are using joysticks as a controller.

This is a much easier joystick API to use with flexible functions. Callback functions are configured to use blocks. iJoystick is using UIImageView for controlled objects.

With iJoystick, You can anytime update the speed (speedRatio) of the controlled object and change the radius of the joystick where the joystick thumb revolves.

iJoystick is a class designed to simplify the implementation of joysticks for iPhone and iPad applications. iJoystick is meant for native game applications that is using joysticks for controls. Unlike other joystick API out there, iJoystick is built flexible and easy to use.

To use the iJoystick class in an app, just drag the iJoystick class files (iJoystick.h and iJoystick.m) and assets (JoystickThumb.png and JoystickContainer.png)

Optimized for iOS8

  1. First, make sure that the class files and assets were included in your XCode source.
  2. Import the iJoystick header file #import "iJoystick.h"
  3. Create a UIImageView that serve as the controlled object. Example:

    UIImageView *controlledObject = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"crystalBall.png"]];
        controlledObject.center = CGPointMake(100, 100);
        [self.view addSubview:controlledObject];
    
  4. Initialize the joystick (you can set values for radius and speed ratio if you want):
